This road loop is one of the best half-day rides in Gorenjska. It links two of Slovenia's oldest towns with Jamnik, the hilltop church that appears on countless postcards and Instagram feeds. Distances are short, traffic is light once you leave town, and the views get better the higher you climb. The ride starts in Kranj, a compact old town set on a rocky ridge above the Sava and Kokra rivers. From there, you head southwest on flat to rolling roads towards Škofja Loka, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Slovenia. It's worth a short stop: roll through the old town square, look up at Loka Castle, and cross the old stone bridge over the Selška Sora. After Škofja Loka, the road turns towards the hills and the real work begins. The climb to Jamnik is 4.3 km at an average gradient of 9.6%, on quiet roads through farmland, forest and scattered villages. It's steady rather than demanding, so most riders can pace it comfortably. At the top, the small Church of St. Primož and Felicijan sits alone on a grassy ridge on the edge of the Jelovica plateau. On a clear day, you can look out over the Ljubljana Basin towards the Kamnik–Savinja Alps, Storžič and the Karavanke. Early morning and the hour before sunset offer the best light, so time your ride accordingly if you're bringing a camera. From Jamnik, the route descends via Kropa and rolls back to Kranj through Besnica.
